The Gospel in Four Words (1 John 5:6-12)

As he gets near the end of his letter, John returns once more to one of the main themes of First John – the importance of believing in Jesus. In the first 5 verses of chapter 5, John focuses what we experience when we put our faith in Jesus. But in vv. 6-12, he turns to the content of our faith. Yes, we should believe in Jesus. But what exactly are we supposed to believe? And just as important, how do we know it is true? The answer in vv. 6-12 is that we should believe what God says about Jesus, and we should believe it because God says it. This sermon explores what that means by working through four key words that John uses to summarize the Gospel of Jesus the Son of God.
